This is one of several print ads in a $50,000 pro-LVEC media campaign by Kingston Accommodation Partners and others incluing KEDCO, the arm of City Council that's supposed to be selling Kingston to outsiders, not selling LVECs to City Councillors.

The WatchKingstonGrow.com domain was registered by Kingston Accommodation Partners on April 11, 2006 for one year, expiring in April 2007. The proposed building would open in December 2007.

There is no evidence that the LVEC will have a ventilation system (also here) suitable for "Monster Trucks", and also there is insufficient space outside the proposed LVEC to handle the logistics behind staging such shows.

Remember that Kingston is Canada's 37th largest city. Quite simply, 5-thousand seat hockey bowls in small cities is not where the likes of Rod Stewart are performing.

Are these people seriously suggesting that a reason to rush this LVEC is because Grandma and Grandpa are itching to see Arena-style concerts?

Really? How does this square with the Kingston Frontenacs woeful attendance under current ownership?

This is probably the most ridiculous reason imaginable to rush to build an LVEC without proper planning, consultation, financing, and location.

There may be some good reasons to build a new arena, but the prospects of a Memorial Cup (also here and here) aren't among them.

We certainly don't need to rush a taxpayer-financed $40 millon palace to bring Colin James to Kingston.
