The City's LVEC Home Page -- January 17th, 2006

Here's an informal and broad analysis of the City of Kingston's LVEC project home page as it looked on January 17th, 2006.

What's shaded in BLUE is structural, the stuff of every web page: logos, navigation menus, etc.

Shaded in GREEN is material that appears to be current and relevant.

Shaded in PINK is material that is either incorrect, dated, or of dubious applicability to the North Block LVEC.  Inexplicably, the city has maintained this incorrect, dated, or dubious information front-and-center in the LVEC materials despite reminders from KCAL that they should not be doing so.

Incorrect material includes:

• Discussion and concept Images of the Anglin Bay site.
• Environmental assessments of the Anglin Bay site.
• Zoning materials related to the Anglin Bay site.
• FAQ's that don't, in fact, answer key questions, but instead reinforce pre-determined outcomes.  Note that these "Questions and Answers" are still Anglin-Bay centric.

Dated material includes:

• Everything by related to the Steering Committee, which has not met for over six months.
• Since its release the business plan has not been publicly iterated and refined, as all serious business plans are.  The document is presented as perfect-upon-first-arrival, as no plans ever are in practice.
• The Task Force vision is discredited and dead, yet still occupies a prominent position on the site.
• Information on all public meetings about the LVEC on Anglin Bay.

Dubious items includes:

• Traffic and parking reports, that we believe are seriously flawed if not fudged, apply to the Anglin Bay site, not the North Block site.  The Lasalle Causeway is mentioned exactly zero times in the traffic studies.
• The ability to comment with no provisions for feedback to the public about the number, nature, and tone of comments.
